Aid and feeding children

In eastern Congo, in an area marked by conflict, we meet Angelique – a 27-year-old mother of three. Forced to flee her home and having since lost her husband, she is now queuing for food rations, which should feed her family for a few months.

“Thanks to this help, my children can eat better now,” she says with a smile.

Her story is one of many. While Angelique and her children have been given a break from hunger and food shortages, others are seeing aid cut back, while fears of Ebola spread across the rest of DR Congo and surrounding countries. The wars in the Middle East and Ukraine get the most media attention, but there are many crises and conflicts around the world that we hear little or nothing about. In already vulnerable areas, this makes the situation even more critical for those who already have the least.

At the same time, we are now experiencing major cuts in international aid . As support from the richest countries is reduced, less aid is delivered – precisely when the need is greatest.

This means that people like Angelique are even more dependent on support from individuals like you.
