"Thank you that there are good people"

Give a summer gift!

My name is Barbara and I'm 32 years old. I have a lot to be grateful for. Among other things, I have a good family consisting of my husband Hugo and our two wonderful children.

Despite the challenges, I am often happy. My prayer and hope is that we can take care of ourselves in the future, and not least give our children a good education and opportunities in life, and guide them to become good people.

My childhood, on the other hand, was tough. I grew up in an urban area in Baraya, Colombia. Growing up was difficult because my father left us when I was two years old. Even though we faced challenges and hardships, my mother took full responsibility for me and my three siblings. My mother was very brave and she did her best. Every day she got up at 5am to ensure our livelihood. We had little food, but we still managed.

My mom wanted me to study to become a preschool teacher, but she didn't have enough money for that. In addition, she unfortunately got breast cancer. So when I was a teenager, I had to work to help my mom. I made a commitment to make sure she had a good diet in the last few months before she died.

When I was 19, I met Hugo, who later became my husband. He suggested we move to the village and try our luck there. Fortunately, we eventually got in touch with Caritas and received good help, support and training.

My dream now is to continue working with our vegetable garden and coffee plants, promoting our products, giving my children food on the table and a good future. I also want to contribute to the development of my country.

I am very grateful that Caritas exists and that there are good people who give and help others to have a better life.

Regards Barbara
