Agate* from Latvia lived a normal life, but suddenly everything was turned upside down when she went through a breakup and had to move out of her apartment with her seven-year-old daughter.
Even though she had a job, she had no savings, and her finances were quickly destroyed. She visited Caritas in Trondheim and was also encouraged to contact NAV, but she didn't want to for fear of losing custody of her daughter.
Agate was in such a vulnerable situation that Caritas decided to put her on the list of those who can receive food bags in Trondheim. Each time she came to pick up a bag, she expressed great gratitude and said that the food helped her survive the dark period in her life. In addition, she had the opportunity to talk to others who also came to collect food, and she realized that she was not the only one facing challenges. She was always positive and often brought her daughter along to show her that there are others who both need and provide help.
Every week, volunteers at Caritas Trondheim distribute food to disadvantaged people in the city. The demand is increasing in line with price rises and expensive times.
After three months, Agate came back and said with a smile: "Thank you so much. Now we're on our own."
*Agate is a name we have given her for privacy reasons. It is therefore not her real name.
