The fight for opportunities
Give an autumn gift!

In a world of abundance, there are still far too many who are left out and lack opportunities. The reality for many is one of hunger, poverty and exclusion.
These are not just statistics in a report. These are real people. Children who go to bed hungry. Elderly people who have no one to talk to. Parents who have to choose between paying the electricity bill or buying dinner for the family. These are people who live in the shadows of society – invisible to many, but not to us.
At Caritas we see them. And we know that these are not inevitable destinies. Exclusion, hunger and poverty are not laws of nature – they are consequences of political, economic and social choices. And that means we can choose differently.
The fight for opportunity is the slogan for this year's autumn campaign. It can mean many different things depending on who you ask. For Brenda in Honduras or Arahm in South Sudan, it can mean the opportunity to get enough food, build a house, earn an income, send children to school, or escape poverty and/or hunger.
For Dishani and Alex, who have come to Norway from India and Lebanon, it can mean the opportunity to get a job, be included, create friendships and belonging, learn Norwegian, or help others in the same situation.
Many of those who are excluded today in Norway are people who have come to the country with the hope of a new life – refugees, migrant workers and families on the run. Integration is not just about language and work, but about being seen, having the opportunity to contribute and feeling at home. When we include, we build bridges. When we listen, we create trust. And when we act together, we strengthen the community.
The fight against hunger is not over. Access to sufficient and nutritious food is a basic human right, but for many around the world this is far from a given. Caritas works to ensure that no one goes hungry and is committed to sustainable food production. food security is not just about filling stomachs, but about giving people security, dignity and the opportunity to live a dignified life.
When we fight hunger, we also fight inequality and hopelessness.
In addition, it says Caritas at the forefront when the crisis hits. Through acute emergency response We provide rapid and vital support to people affected by natural disasters, war and conflict. When everything is falling apart, the first thing needed is food, water, warmth and safety. Caritas are present with relief packages, shelter and other assistance – and we will stay when the media attention disappears. emergency response is not just about saving lives, but about giving hope.
But for the aid to last, we must also build peace and reconciliation. In many of the areas Caritas work, conflict and violence are part of everyday life. That is why we support initiatives that promote dialogue, reconstruction and trust between people and communities. Peace is not just about the absence of war – it is about justice, respect and the ability to live together in safety.
Reconciliation is the path back to community after division. When we invest in peace, we invest in the future.
This is what we fight for. Every single day.
It is easy to feel despair and powerlessness in the face of great challenges. But there is also power in hope, community, commitment, and action. We believe that everyone has the opportunity to make a difference. Whether it is through volunteering, being a sponsor, or raising an often forgotten voice.
