From hunger to hope – Fatima's path to a better life

In a small village in Tsahuyam Zimta (Biu LGA), Fatima, a 40-year-old mother of four, lived in a daily battle against hunger and poverty. With scarce resources and poor soil, her crops lasted only a few months of the year. Every day was a new worry about how she would provide enough food for her children. Meals often consisted of simple maize porridge or a little rice when possible, but it was never enough. The children were malnourished, often sick and without the energy they needed to play and learn.

But then an opportunity came along that would change everything. Through Caritas ' seed distribution program, Fatima received high-quality corn and vegetable seeds, as well as training on how to improve the soil and protect her crops. With new hope in her heart, she worked diligently, followed the advice she had been given, and watched as her fields began to flourish. When the harvest came, the results were overwhelming—she had twice the yield she had ever had before.

Now Fatima and her family have three nutritious meals a day, something they could only dream of before. Her children are healthier, stronger and more active. She sells the surplus from her harvest at the market, and the income has enabled her to buy clothes and shoes for her children and even repair the roof of their home.

For Fatima, this wasn't just about seeds – it was about a new start. An opportunity to create a better life for herself and her children. Thanks to humanitarian support, she was given the chance to build a safer future.

Through the Lenten campaign, we can together give more families the same opportunity. Give up a good deed and help those in need.
