Together for a better world

Finally, we can launch some really good news: From March 1st, Caritas Norway is part of the Postcode Lottery. We will be one of a total of 23 organizations that receive support from the charitable lottery in the form of free, non-earmarked funds.

In the Postcode Lottery, you participate with your postcode, and therefore you always win together with your neighbors – who also have tickets. While ticket buyers have the opportunity to win great cash prizes and maybe get a visit from Tom and Jorun Stiansen, the neighbors also contribute to supporting good causes.

Together we make a difference

When many people participate in the Postcode Lottery together, it produces fantastic results. Together, the Postcode Lottery in Norway, Sweden, the UK, Germany and the Netherlands has contributed more than NOK 150 billion to non-profit organizations, making the lotteries one of the world's largest private contributors to good causes.

In Norway, the Postcode Lottery has so far raised more than NOK 600 million for WWF World Wildlife Fund and SOS Children's Villages.

– It is truly a great honor for us to wish Caritas Norway welcomes the Postcode Lottery, says Ambassador Jorun Stiansen.

– We know that you do incredibly important work improving the living conditions of people all over the world, and are both proud and humbled to be allowed to contribute to this important work, adds colleague Tom Stiansen.

What exactly is a postal code?

In the Postcode Lottery, your ticket number is based on your postcode and your postal code. Each postcode is divided into several postcodes, each of which constitutes a street, road or area. This ensures that the winner does not only win for themselves, but together with their neighbors. The winnings do not go to one lucky winner, but are shared among all tickets in the entire neighborhood. This is one of the things that has made the Postcode Lottery a success.

– It's always fun to win money, laughs Tom Stiansen, but even more fun to win with your neighbors.

It is equally important that each individual lot also contributes to something bigger.

– At least 50 percent of the lottery's revenue after prizes have been paid out goes to good causes, explains Jorun Stiansen.

Great importance for Caritas Norway

– There is little doubt that this will have a major impact on the work we do, confirms Secretary General Ingrid Rosendorf Joys in Caritas Norway. We live in a troubled world where both people, animals and nature face major challenges. All contributions are important, but perhaps especially contributions that are long-term, stable and without reservations and conditions. – Such as the money from the Postcode Lottery, says Joys.

Because the funds from the Postcode Lottery are not earmarked, the organizations can at any time use them where the need is greatest and where they are most useful.
