On Friday, April 1, 2022, Her Majesty The Queen met with Ukrainian refugees at Caritas Norway.

The Queen also received a briefing on the work Caritas is doing in Ukraine, neighboring countries and in Norway for the refugees arriving. Queen Sonja was accompanied by Oslo's mayor Marianne Borgen during the visit.

The war in Ukraine affects and engages us all. Caritas helps hundreds of thousands of refugees and other victims of the war in Ukraine and neighboring countries. In Ukraine, more than 3,500 employees and volunteers ensure that food, water and hygiene items are distributed and that children are protected and cared for in the best possible way. They also provide shelter and transportation.

- Already in the first month of the war, Caritas has helped more than 350,000 people in Ukraine, and tens of thousands of refugees have been helped in the recipient countries of Poland, Moldova, Romania, Slovakia and Hungary.

Caritas Norway has extensive experience of working with migrants and refugees in this country, and is now using its network and expertise to ensure that all victims of the war are looked after on arrival in Norway. So do the organization's local resource centers. When talking to refugees, it is important to listen to their needs and facilitate good integration measures in collaboration with the authorities and civil society.

- In Norway, we organize volunteers with a Ukrainian background who help their fellow countrymen. We also have many with backgrounds from neighboring countries and Norwegians who show enormous commitment to help, both at home and abroad.
