As of January 1, 2025, the national au pair center will be closed. This means that Caritas will no longer arrange activities or information meetings for au pairs or host families.

But those who are in Norway as an au pair in 2025 and the years to come can still get assistance, but then at Caritas resource centers for immigrants . The center in Oslo can be reached by phone 23 33 43 61, email: info@caritas.no or by stopping by our drop-in guidance service at Hammersborg Torg 3 in Oslo.

Caritas also has resource centers in Bergen, Drammen, Trondheim and Stavanger. You can also contact the Norwegian Directorate of Immigration (UDI) for more information.

Can still get advice and guidance

By Caritas resource centers, you can get guidance in your native language or another language you understand well, and get answers to any questions you may have about employment contracts, vacation pay, taxes, healthcare or social security rights, etc. We also have lawyers who can assist with your needs and activities you can participate in – such as Norwegian courses, women's groups and job search courses.

Opening hours

The center in Oslo is open on December 23 and 30, but otherwise closed during Christmas Eve. In the New Year, normal opening hours are from January 2, Monday to Thursday from 10:00 AM - 4:00 PM.

Why is the au pair center being closed down?

Caritas Norway has operated the au pair center since 2017 on behalf of the Norwegian Directorate of Immigration. The reason for its closure is that politicians have not allocated money for its operation in the state budget for 2025.

The au pair scheme was changed on 15 March 2024. From this date, people from countries outside the EU/EEA could no longer apply for a residence permit to come to Norway as an au pair. Those who are already in Norway as an au pair can get a residence permit in Norway for up to two years from the date they received their first permit. People from EEA countries can still come to Norway as an au pair or intern, in line with the existing rules on free movement within the EEA.
